Blackstar

Quote
Galoob produced action figures from 1983 to 1985 after the show's cancellation, attempting to tap into the He-Man boom. The first series was re-released alongside the second and third series of figures with "laser light" stone-sparking action. Evil characters were packaged with demons while good characters were packaged with Trobbits. Trobbits were also packaged individually with Rif, Terra and Gossamer being the tougher ones to find. Warlock the dragon and the Space Ship were each released in two color variations. Also released were Triton, Kadray's flying bull, the Trobbit Wind Machine (with 2 Trobbits) and Battle Wagon. The Ice Castle was constructed with very thin plastic, making it very fragile.

I love these things!!! The box art on the playsets and vehicles are beautiful!!

The figures were released in 3 waves and each good guy came with a Trobbit (the little pink guys) and the bad guys came with the greenish-yellow demon. On wave 2 the villians came with a rainbow of colors of that same demon, while wave 3 villians came with new demons in new molds.

Blackstars dragon-steed Warlock, also came in 2 different colors. The yellow one shown here isn't mine and it is the wrong color. Mine is solid green with a light patch running up his front. The green one also doesn't have a saddle while the yellow one does. Whats weird is although they are basically the same molds, the green one is smooth while the yellow one is scaled.

Starting on wave 2 all of the figures had a flicker light-up gimmick. I've shown the Blackstar with and without it. Anyway, all of the series one figures were re-released with the flicker action except Mara.

Also of note is Klone, the Blue elf guy. He came with removeable arms and legs, which could be traded out and combined with a snap-on chest piece and tail, then he becomes Cloud Cat!

Here are some of mine:

The Ice Castle

Trobbit Wind Machine

Warlock

Carded

Card - front & back

Trobbits- Poulo, Carpo, Balkar, Gossamer & Rif

Demons - The dark green one and the red one are from Wave 3 while the middle one is from Wave 1. All of the ones in the second pic are from Wave 2.

Baddie Henchmen - Gargo, The Vizier, and Neptul. Note the flicker feature on Vizier

Main Baddies - Kadray, The Overlord (main villian) and a Palace Guard

Blackstar and Mara

And finally Blackstar, along with Klone both with flicker feature

Awesome stuff Stars! I had no idea these guys actually existed?

Blackstar looks like the love child of Conan and He-Man.  Cheesy

The link you included shows quite a few figures yet I never saw them  Huh?

Actually, the show pre-dates He-Man! Warlock AND Blackstar cameoed in MotU one time each. Blackstar as a staute in a brief glimpse in one episode and Warlock in a whole episode repainted pink!!!

And I have all the ones I want, so I don't plan on getting the others.

Thanks for the interest! Smiley

Wow, Stars. What a great idea for reviews - in fact a great title for a blog!!

Fun stuff, although I must agree I have no memory of this. There's a guy of there that looks like an early Shrek to me!

Wonderful work.

Thanks guys!!!

Andy, I do want to make this a semi-regular feature, but I don't know where to put it on here. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Really appreciate the support guys!! You guys are the best!

Well, it can be its own ongoing thread of course. "Review Repository" is usually for links to reviews off site though. If you want it to be based here I might suggest "The Pegs"?

Really it can go wherever you want!

There is a platform for hosting articles via a front page portal which we could get to eventually.... dozy.....?

"Gossamer" really did get the raw deal didn't he? Those ears. I can only imagine the grief he got.

I'm really impressed with "Klone". That translucent feature is actually quite good for the time.

I don't remember this at all. But I do love the many rip-off aspects of it...

I wonder if the series even got as far as having South Americans rip it off?

Where was the line made Stars?

US line. Maybe sold in the UK too, but I'm not sure. Huh?

EDIT! I 'm almost 100% sure they were sold in Italy. I've seen packages in (what I think is) Italian for a few of the Creatures/vehicles

They really do seem to be a precursor to so many Toy Lines that followed.Love any and all Fantasy-based Toys and it's a thrill seeing what probably kicked most of it all off.Really enjoying these Stars!
