I can tell you they get ridicuous amounts of concessions to film here.Bob Carr used to absolutely lay it on for the American production companies.If whoever is NSW Premier this week doesn't learn from what Carr initiated then overseas movie production will be stuffed here.
Although if Rupert decides to weigh in then it's all moot and GL will go ahead here regardless.

For our US friends, the 'Premier' is kinda like a state Governor. The 'New South Wales' Premier is getting some grief right now and there's talk he'll get the boot. |

Which could be interesting as she is allegedly the standout in what (from the little I've been subjected to) is a terrible show with a bad premise, writing, and acting. It's like they want to make The OC, but don't understand why that show worked (to be fair, the creators of The OC forgot what made it work for a while too). |
