Oh I used to read the occasional. I loved Zeck's run, and I picked up a bunch of Robbins, Buscema and Kirby issues for a buck a piece recently. I meant in a current series.

Ahhh Kirby, I miss thee. And as goofy as some of Gruenwald's stories could be there was still some amazing stuff in there like "Streets of Poison".

I hope you've either read the HoM stuff before, or are prepared for some disappointment. There was a lot of junk tied into that one (I think the Avengers was the best of them).

The only Marvel Comics I've read to date are New X-Men vols 1-4, Astonishing X-Men 1-3 and Elektra: The Hand.  I want to get all the House of M stuff so I can read it once, I'll sell of what I don't like.  On that same note, I probably won't keep all the New X-Men stuff, I like Morrison, but sometimes he is really confusing, and I HATE Kordy and Quitely's art.  Frankly, they both suck.

My cousin recently got a Captain America Omnibus and the three Death of... trades.  I've heard nothing but good things about the Ed Brubaker stuff, so I'm tempted to pick those up myself.

Just my opinion, but Morrison's X-Men is not a good place to start with the X-Men canon. His cerebral-fluff stories are better suited to Vertigo characters, not the franchise that kept Marvel afloat. Morrison's high point was "Arkham Asylum" and that was some time ago.

Chris Claremont can be wordy, but he defined and created most of the X-Men we love today. Uncanny X-Men between issues 100-250 are just top notch stuff.

Considering some of Morrisson's biggest changes got retconned almost immediately after he left, it could be viewed as an insignificant run. Aside from the claremont run, I'd go to the current Fraction run, or the adjectievless from the early 90s (though that quickly started crossing over with the other x-titles, so maybe not).

I've read the first volume of the New X-Men run, and have the 2nd on the way. I've heard a lot of mixed things about it, but I'm not following the overall universe so whether or not the events have any long term meaning, I've enjoyed it for good old Morrison oddness and Quitely's intermittent art. To be honest, Emma Frost's outfit is the worst thing bout it for me

Do it. It's a great jumping on point, and a worthy slab to own.

I like Morrison's JLA stuff, and I've read some of his recent Batman stuff leading into Final Crisis (but not that yet).  Of the four I've read, I liked Riot at Xavier's the most.  I'd like to read some of Claremont's stuff eventually.  My cousin is pretty excited about X-Men Forever.

Do yourself a favour and skip X-Men Forever. It's a trainwreck.

Claremont's classic run, however, should be high on your list. Like FMS said it's key to really understanding these characters. Sadly some of them haven't been written well for a long time (from the perspective of a long-suffering Nightcrawler fan).

I liked the fun side of Kurt, but also his soulful side. The most important thing about Kurt to me was his relationships - with Kitty, Peter, Ororo. I haven't seen that aspect of the books for a long time, and it's sadly missed.

Whoah, whoah, whoah, whoah, whoah! In hindsight Peter and Kitty were not the innocent pairing, they were the "that go is so going to the big house for statutory if he goes any further", couple. She was what 13, and he was 18 (or so)? Yeah, don't let the cops find out what they were up to when she was phasing around his room.
